Update: It's been over a year since we stuck up our decal backsplash. I am happy to report that we have not had one problem with the product, it looks exactly the same way it did the day we put it up. No bubbles, no rips, no spaghetti sauce- it wipes right off!
No, I am not talking about a reverse belly flop. I am referring to our new kitchen backsplash.
I hope you are sitting down reading this blog because I am about to shock your socks off...our backplash is a DECAL! No, I will not get out of town! This backsplash came in a tube compliments of my favorite decal supplier, www.dalidecals.com.
Here is the low down...
Our kitchen Saturday at 11:30AM:
We decided to take the molding off the bottom of our cabinets before cutting our vinyl decals, to create clean lines:
The Work Station: Henry was the Measurer and Team Lead (I thought it would be good for his resume:) I was the Cutter and Installer. We take our roles very seriously and talk about the approach up front to minimize work place conflict.
Tools: This is it...Decal, Ruler (the Level is not really necessary because of the lines in the decal), Scissor, Dry Erase Marker (wipes right off after cutting is complete)
Cutting Around Outlets: We laid pieces over the wall and made a small cut where the outlet was and continued to make it bigger and bigger until we had it cut out. Patience is a must here.
First Piece Done:
At 2:30PM on Saturday (3 hours later):
After the sun went down:
